Templates
Templates are reusable blueprints for income and expense transactions. Create a template once, then use it to quickly generate transactions with pre-filled data — saving time on repetitive entries.
Creating a Template
There are three ways to create a template:
- From the Templates page — Navigate to Templates in the sidebar, click New Income Template or New Expense Template, and fill in the details
- From a transaction — Open any income or expense detail page, click the ⋮ menu, and select Save as Template
- Automatically from recurring — When you create a recurring transaction, a template is auto-created and linked
Template Fields
A template includes all the same fields as a transaction:
- Name — A label for the template (e.g., “Monthly Rent”, “Standard Consulting Invoice”)
- Description — Optional longer description
- Amount, Party, Category, Account, Location, Channel — Pre-filled values
- Line items or service items — Product and service details
- Color and icon — Visual identification in the template list
Using a Template
Pre-filled Form
Click a template name to open a new transaction form with all fields pre-populated from the template. Review, adjust the date or any other fields, and save.
Quick Use ⚡
Click the ⚡ icon on a template for instant transaction creation:
- A date picker appears (defaults to today)
- Optionally add a note
- Click confirm — the transaction is created immediately
No form, no review — ideal for routine entries where nothing changes.
Favorites
Mark up to 5 templates as favorites. Favorite templates appear in a horizontal bar at the top of the income and expense list pages for quick access.
To mark a template as favorite, open the template and toggle the favorite option.
Template Bar and New Dropdown
On income and expense list pages:
- Template bar — Shows your favorite templates with click-to-use and ⚡ quick-use buttons
- New dropdown — The + New button opens a searchable list of all templates, with “Blank” always shown first
Field Visibility
Each template can configure which optional fields are shown when using it. Toggle field visibility settings on the template edit page to streamline the form for that specific use case.
Managing Templates
From the Templates page:
- Edit — Update template details and line items
- Archive — Hide inactive templates without deleting
- Unarchive — Restore archived templates
- Delete — Permanently remove a template
- View usage stats — Times used and last used date
