Tags
Tags let you label any entity in Gee Ledger — contacts, products, invoices, expenses, quotes, and projects. Unlike categories (which are single-assignment and transaction-only), tags are flexible: an entity can have multiple tags, and the same tag can be used across different entity types.
Tags vs Categories

Both can be used together. For example, an income transaction might have the category “Services” and the tags “VIP Client” and “Q1 Campaign”.
Creating Tags
- Navigate to Tags in the sidebar (under Organization)
- Click New Tag
- Enter a name (e.g., “VIP”, “Wholesale”, “Seasonal”)
- Pick a color for visual identification
- Click Create
Assigning Tags
On any entity’s detail page (contact, product, income, expense, quote, or project), you’ll find a Tags section where you can:
- Add existing tags from a dropdown
- Create new tags inline
- Remove tags by clicking the X on a tag badge
Filtering by Tag
On list pages (incomes, expenses, contacts, products, etc.), use the tag filter to narrow results to entities with a specific tag. This works alongside other filters like category, location, and date range.
Batch Operations
From the Tags page, click the three-dot menu on any tag to perform bulk actions:
Apply Discount to Parties
Set a default discount for all contacts tagged with a specific tag. When you create a new invoice for one of those contacts, the discount auto-applies.
- Click ⋯ → Apply Discount to Parties
- Select a discount from the dropdown
- Click Apply
Email Reminders
Send invoice reminder emails to all contacts with a specific tag who have unpaid invoices (sent, viewed, or overdue).
- Click ⋯ → Email Reminders
- Emails are sent automatically — you’ll see a summary (sent, skipped, failed)
This respects your plan’s monthly email limit.
Export Transactions
Download a CSV file of all incomes and expenses tagged with a specific tag.
- Click ⋯ → Export Transactions
- CSV file downloads automatically
Use Cases
- “VIP” on contacts — apply a 10% loyalty discount to all VIP contacts at once
- “Wholesale” on contacts — bulk-apply wholesale pricing, send batch reminders
- “Q1 Campaign” on incomes — export all campaign-related invoices for reporting
- “Seasonal” on products — mark items for promotional pricing
- “Follow-up” on contacts — email reminders to all contacts needing attention
- “Urgent” on quotes — flag time-sensitive quotes that need follow-up
Plan Availability
Tags are available on both Free and Pro plans with no limits. Batch email requires the Pro plan (uses the monthly email allowance).
