Categories

Categories help you classify transactions by type — such as “Sales”, “Rent”, “Supplies”, or “Marketing”. Use them to organize your records and generate meaningful reports.

Category Types

IncomeRevenue categories (e.g., Sales, Services, Interest)
ExpenseCost categories (e.g., Rent, Utilities, Travel)
GeneralCategories that apply to both (e.g., Miscellaneous)

Creating a Category

  1. Navigate to Categories in the sidebar
  2. Click New Category
  3. Enter a name and select the type
  4. Optionally set a color and icon for visual identification
  5. Click Create

Using Categories

When creating a transaction, select a category from the dropdown. This:

  • Helps you find transactions later by filtering
  • Powers category-based reports (Pro plan)
  • Provides visual organization in your transaction list
