Tax Rates
Set up tax rates for your business and apply them to individual line items on transactions and quotes. Gee Ledger calculates tax automatically and displays a detailed breakdown.
Creating a Tax Rate
- Navigate to Tax Rates in the sidebar
- Click New Tax Rate
- Enter:
- Name — e.g., “SST 8%”, “VAT 20%”, “GST 10%”
- Rate — The percentage (e.g., 8, 20, 10)
- Default — Toggle on to auto-apply to new items
- Click Create
Tax Modes
Each transaction or quote has a tax mode:
| Mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Tax Exclusive | Tax is added on top of the item price |
| Tax Inclusive | Tax is included in the item price |
Example
For a $100 item with 10% tax:
- Exclusive: Subtotal $100 + Tax $10 = Total $110
- Inclusive: Subtotal $90.91 + Tax $9.09 = Total $100
Per-Item Tax
Each line item and service item can have its own tax rate. This supports businesses with mixed-tax products (e.g., food items taxed differently from services).
